Living in the Venice area of Florida, it doesn’t take too many looks around a neighborhood to see a pool. Many if not all of those pools have a pool cage. We use them to keep out bugs, leaves, and other debris. But how does a pool cage affect your roof? That might not be thought about too often until maybe it’s time for a re-roofing project.
Most of the time we’re thinking about beating the summer heat, or enjoying time with friends and family in our pool and ways we can stay comfortable. Plus, having a pool cage enables more time to enjoy that pool, so homeowners aren’t spending too much time thinking about the effects it could impose on a roof. But it does have them.
Because a pool cage is designed to fully enclose the pool, they usually sit right against the home, this is why a pool cage can affect your roof. When it is fitted so tightly to the home, it doesn’t allow for water to drain properly. This can lead to the need for repairs to the soffit and the fascia down the line. Because water can’t always drain properly, it can cause mold and mildew to grow, which will then cause these areas to rot away. This can also happen when a gutter isn’t properly cleaned from leaves or other debris.
None of these are cause for alarm. The experts at Kirkey Roofing deal with pool cages on a daily basis being in the Sarasota, Venice, Nokomis, Osprey, Lakewood Ranch, or Bradenton areas.
