Hiring a roofing contractor is something you only want to do once! The roof on your home is one of the largest investments you can make, it protects not only everything inside the home, but the integrity of the home’s structure. As a homeowner, you need to be sure that you do everything in your power to hire the right roofing contractor the first (and hopefully only) time you replace your roof.
The best way to find a reputable roofing contractor is to do your homework, or due diligence before you begin asking for estimates. This way you can narrow down the possibilities ahead of time. Getting a roofing contractor to come to house is the easy part. These are the basic questions you need to get out of the way initially, and these can be done over the phone.
- Their legal business name
- How long they’ve been in business
- Are they licensed and insured
- Can they verify their license and insurance
If they can’t, won’t, or have difficulty answering ANY of those questions, it’s time to move on to the next business on your list.
Once you have narrowed them down, it’s time to have estimates, and interview potential roofers. There are several key components that go into an estimate.
- Condition of shingles or tiles
- Age of the roof
- Condition of the roof deck
- Pitch of the deck
- Market price of roofing materials
Don’t ask questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no. Ask questions with substance, and focus on workmanship and references, as opposed to materials. If they don’t seem to be happy with your line of questioning, don’t be afraid to send them packing.
Once you have all of your estimates together we would love the opportunity to go over them with you. We have found that a lot of times people think they are getting the same system we offer but once we look at their other proposals we find that it is not. Even if you decide not to go with Kirkey Roofing, we want to make sure that you are getting the best roof for your money. Learn more about hiring a roofing contractor here.
