Spring is upon us, which means many home maintenance tasks are about to begin. One of those should include spring roof maintenance. Spring is a great time to check up on the condition of your roof, to be sure it’s in tip top shape before the start of rainy and hurricane seasons in the Sarasota area. These are some tips to help you get your roof ready for spring!
Thoroughly Examine the Roof
Take a really good look at your roof. Go around your whole house looking for signs of moisture damage, mold or mildew, and wear and tear. You also want to be looking at your shingles or tiles. Do you have any that are missing, cracked or damaged? Are any of your shingles worn out or missing granules? Do you have a roof that has tree branches that hover over it? Contact a roofing contractor if you notice any of these signs that indicate possible roof damage, they can help to better evaluate what it is that you have noticed.
Check Out Your Attic
Once you’ve examined the outside of your roof, it’s time to check out the inside. Even if your attic is small, get up in there and check out the inside of your attic if you’re able to. You want to be on the lookout for signs of light coming in from the outside. If you do see this, it means that water can or has been coming through too! You need to call a professional roofer immediately.
Clean the Gutters
Spring roof maintenance should include cleaning the gutters. If the gutters are full of leaves and debris, they can’t drain properly and will become built up with water. Be sure they are cleaned completely prior to the rainy season.
